AREA BASKETBALL: Challenge accepted

Athens ‘Cuse taking on First Baptist Church Athens in fundraiser game on Monday

Athens — The Athens 'Cuse seventh and eighth grade basketball team played in the Prime Time Sports Summer Hoops tournament in Tyler this past weekend grabbing the third place spot.

The varsity team took second place in the tournament after losing by two in the final game on Sunday.

After a couple of tough losses on Saturday the Athens 'Cuse teams showed up in a big way on Sunday finishing 4-1 on the day.

“It was a great weekend of basketball for us, the kids performed very well playing against much larger opponents,” coach Todd Koehler said.

The Athens 'Cuse teams will be playing in Longview this weekend.

The team will also have a game on Monday night at 7 p.m. against the First Baptist Church staff at the ROC.

Koehler said the challenge has been given, and accepted by the Athens 'Cuse seventh and eighth grade team for a fundraiser.

The Athens 'Cuse basketball team is trying to raise funds in order to compete in two upcoming national events, one in Forney and one in Dallas.

“We are looking forward to the challenge, and the opportunity to play in Athens. This is a great group of local kids, and should be a fun time for all,” Koehler said.

To view the challenge, Koehler said you can find the video on YouTube and search FBC Athens staff vs. 'Cuse.
