Ready, Set, Glow.
The Cain Center in Athens is looking for runners and volunteers to participate in the 5K Glow Run at the Cain Center on July 26.
The family fun event will begin with registration at 7:30 p.m., with the run set to begin around 8:30 p.m.
They will also have a 1-mile run during the event for those who want to participate.
During the event last year, they had a live band that performed. Activities coordinator Kathleen Lilly said they made a change this year.
“We are not having the live band this year,” Lilly said. “Our race chip timer has a PA system so we might put some inspirational music on during the night.”
Lilly said participants can register at the Cain Center or online at www.active.com.
The cost is $30 for adults and $15 for children.
“So far, we have a ton of people that are calling for the event,” Lilly said. “I am guessing that we will get about 200 people or more for the event.”
The last day to register is July 24.
The Cain Center is also pushing the run through their summer football league and the swim team.
Lilly said they would like to see children ages 12-and-under and your pets out along the course.
“Children and dogs are welcome,” Lilly said. “We are also giving flyers to all of our football kids and swim team kids. We are pushing it that way in order to get our kids in shape.”
Lilly also said the route will be the same as it was last year.
“It will be the same route and we have had it planned out with Rodney Williams about two months ago,” Lilly said.
The course will also be lighted so runners do not get lost during the event.
“We are getting a ton of glow stuff and the route will have stakes that glow,” Lilly said.
Lilly said she would like to see more runners take part in the run.
“I would like to get up to the amount of the Turkey Trot, which is 450 runners,” Lilly said. “I have notified all of those runners and they know that it is happening.”
For more information or to register, you can contact the Cain Center at 903-677-2000 or go by their office at 915 South Palestine Street.
