ATHENS —
Wills Point sure has been a fun trip for the Athens Hornets basketball team over the past few years.
In 2009 and 2010, the Hornets won the championship at the annual Wills Point Invitational Basketball Tournament. Last year, they finished second.
This year, head coach Gerald Anthony’s Athens squad will be looking to take home the title for the third time in four years. That quest begins today when the Hornets begin pool play. Athens will open the tournament at 11:50 a.m. against the host Wills Point Tigers, and returns to action at 8:20 p.m. Thursday against Terrell.
The Hornets will wrap up pool play with two more games Friday — at 11:50 a.m. against North Lamar, and at 4:05 p.m. against Red Oak Life.
Bracket play will be held Saturday.
The Hornets will be playing in Pool B. Pool A consists of Edgewood; Kaufman; Royse City; Sulphur Springs; and TCA.
