MALAKOFF —
The Malakoff Tigers had three players earn superlative honors on the recently released 7-2A all-district football team.
Junior running back Damontes Dowell was named Offensive Player of the Year while sophomore running back Marcus Dowell was named Newcomer of the Year.
Damontes Dowell rushed for 1,030 yards and 15 touchdowns despite missing three games due to injury, while Marcus Dowell ran for 792 yards and 13 touchdowns while also making 34 tackles on defense.
Eustace senior Adam Carson was also a superlative winner, earning co-Utility Player of the Year honors. He shared the award with Quitman senior Ethan Callahan. Teammate Kyle Purselley, a senior, shared Defensive Lineman of the Year honors with Malakoff senior Keonte Ross.
Malakoff led the area with 13 selections, including eight first-team selections — senior quarterback Tate Taylor; senior defensive lineman Brandon Davis; and senior linebacker Cesar Garcia. Junior Terrance Scott was honored as a first-teamer at wide receiver, defensive back and at kick returner, while fellow junior Isreal Chavez was a first-team pick at offensive and defensive line.
Eustace also claimed eight first-team spots and finished with 11 selections total. The Bulldogs’ first-team selections were senior running back Jalen Seahorn; senior fullback Tyler Folsom; senior tight end Ramon Ramirez; sophomore offensive lineman Thomas Hyde; sophomore defensive lineman Zach Hughes; sophomore linebacker Nathan Denson; and senior defensive back John Bradburn. In addition to being named co-Defensive Lineman of the Year, Purselley was also honored as the first-team kicker.
Kemp finished with four overall selections, including first-team senior offensive lineman Trevor King. Junior quarterback Corey Watkins, senior running back Blake Watkins and senior defensive lineman Ben Dillon were second-team picks.
Malakoff’s second-team picks were Davis, at tight end; senior offensive lineman David Havlik; junior linebacker Jordan Harris; sophomore defensive back Stephan Wolfe; and Garcia, at linebacker.
Eustace’s second-team picks were Hughes, at offensive line; junior Abed Abuhatub, at linebacker; and junior Steven Stine, at defensive back.
