The Athens Hornets picked up their first win of the season Saturday morning in the fourth annual Wildcat Classic.
Coach Jonathan Ryal’s team (1-3) lost to Corsicana, 4-0, last Friday before picking up a 4-0 win over Chapel Hill on Saturday.
Against Chapel Hill, David Cedillo recorded the shutout in goal for Athens.
Teammates Gerardo Vasquez picked up the first goal on an assist by Jose Martinez in the first half. Enrique Rodriguez added to the lead with a penalty kick for a 2-0 first half lead.
In the second half, Jonathan Marron scored on an assist by Gerardo Vasquez.
Juan Mota sealed the victory with six minutes left on an assist by Rodriguez.
AHS grad Furr scores career high in Fresno State’s win
Junior guard Alex Furr was huge off the bench for the Fresno State Bulldogs, scoring a game and career-high 22 points on six-of-eight shooting while going four-of-five from the three point line in a 75-73 victory over New Mexico on Saturday.
Fresno State travels to Nevada Wednesday night.
MHS loses to Faith Family, 54-38 on Friday
MALAKOFF — The Malakoff Tigers lost a tough district contest to Faith Family, 54-38, on Friday.
Marcus Dowell led the way for Malakoff with 10 points.
MHS travels to Eustace tonight.
