TVCC BASKETBALL: TVCC basketball splits with Kilgore

KILGORE — In a battle of top 15 teams, the No. 11-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals lost a 74-40 contest to No. 8-ranked Kilgore College Wednesday night at Masters Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Cardinals are now 17-2 overall and 7-1 in Region XIV conference play.

The loss ended a 10-game winning streak for the Cardinals.

TVCC will return to the court against Tyler Junior College in the final game of the Hoops for Hope Day at Cardinal Gymnasium.

On Wednesday, the Rangers jumped out to a 40-31 lead at the half.

TVCC was able to cut the deficit to 68-66 with 10 seconds remaining but could not pull out the win.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by Josh Robinson with 18 points, Aldonis Foote with 12 points, Malcolm Riley with 10 points, Octavius Ellis with nine points and Dilepso Blanco with seven points.

In Lady Cardinals action, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation picked up its 42nd straight conference win with a 63-41 win over the Lady Rangers.

With the win, TVCC improved to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

TVCC held a 30-21 lead at the half and outscored Kilgore, 33-20, in the second half of play.

The Lady Cardinals were led in scoring by Adut Bulgak with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Jazmine Spears and Shlonte Allen scored 10 points each.

TVCC hosts No. 8-ranked TJC on Saturday.
