Youth softball playoffs to begin

Athens — It is playoff time for area baseball and softball teams with the City of Athens playing host to the Texas Teenage Softball Association girls 6-under District 8 tournament starting June 30.

Overall, six teams from the Henderson County Girls' Softball Association have qualified for district tournaments this year. Two of those teams will play in the t-ball tournament in Athens.

The 6U t-ball tournament will include the Athens Airbenders, Athens Lady Rangers, BMC Bad News Babes, BMC Batitude, Van Red Hot Lady Bugs, Grand Saline Trophy Hunters, Van Candy Crushers and Grand Saline Country Cuties.

The top two teams from the district competition will advance to the state tournament that will be held in Holland starting July 14.

In 8U machine pitch, the Athens Orange Crush and Athens Cheetah Girls will represent the HCGSA in the district tournament held in Brownsboro starting June 30.

The top two teams from the district tournament will advance to the state tournament in Temple.

Other teams set to compete in Brownsboro include BMC Diamond Divas, BMC Blue Crew, Mabank Impact, Malakoff Wild Chicks, Malakoff Crushers and Eustace Lighting.

In the 10U division, several area teams will play in Corsicana in the District 10 tournament. Teams in the tournament include, Corsicana Dogs, Corsicana Tigers, BMC Herricanes, BMC Dirt Divas, Athens Lady Rangers, Brownsboro Total Chaos, Mabank Supernovas, Malakoff Herricanes, Mildred Boom and Blooming Grove Blue Crush. Top two teams will advance to the state tournament in Sherman.

The 15U District 7 tournament will be held in Mildred with several area teams vying for a trip to the state meet that will be held in Denison.

Teams in the 15U district tournament include Eustace Rampage, Malakoff Stealth, Athens Synergy, Brownsboro Who's Next, Mildred Eagles, Mildred Outlaws and Buffalo Lady Bison.

In 15U, District 6 the Mineola Dirt Devils will compete against seven other teams for a shot at state.

A couple area teams will compete in 12U district tournaments. In District 7 action in Van, BMC Lonestar and BMC Xtream will join the Brownsboro Lady Longhorns in a pursuit of a state tournament berth.

In District 8, Mabank Stingrays and Malakoff Poison will compete in Blooming Grove for a shot at state.

Area baseball teams in the Texas Teenage Baseball Association will start district play the week of July 7 before state tournaments begin July 21.

Malakoff will be home to the 8U player pitch state tournament while it will also play host to the District 13 tournament.
