Lady Tigers ousted in Region 2-2A bi-district round by Alba-Golden

BROWNSBORO — The Malakoff Lady Tigers ran into a tough Alba-Golden Panthers team in a 58-22 loss during the Region 2-AA bi-district round of the playoffs Monday night at Bears’ Gymnasium.

With the loss, coach Emily Martinez Lady Tiger’s end the season at 15-13.

Coach Brad Gipson Lady Panthers improved to 26-7 on the season.

The Panthers’ relied on a full court press for the majority of the game as Malakoff commited 46 turnovers in the game.

Alba-Golden (26-7) was able to take a 14-5 lead after the first quarter as they jumped out to a 10-2 lead with 1:41 remaining in the quarter.

The Lady Tigers cut the lead to, 10-5 on a jumper by freshman Kiana Reed off an assist from sophomore Hayley Thomas.

Taye Jackson then hit one-of-two free throws with 52 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Malakoff was unable to hit a shot from the field until the 1:20 mark of the second quarter when Sierra Perez got the rebound and putback for a 27-7 deficit.

The Lady Tigers cut the lead to 28-11 heading into the locker room as Sierra Perez nailed a jumper with 10 seconds remaining in the half.

The Lady Panthers continued to put on the pressure in the second half outscoring Malakoff 30-11 to seal the win.

The Lady Tigers went 6-of-11 from the free throw line, while Alba-Golden shot 14-of-21 from the charity stripe.

Malakoff was led in scoring by Perez with five points, while teammates Reed and Plandreika Jackson scored four points each in the loss.

Alba-Golden was led in scoring by Macie Arrington with 21 points, while teammate Caitlin Lennon scored 11 points.

In the other Henderson County contest, the Mabank Lady Panthers lost 58-50 to Longview Spring Hill in the Class 3-A, Region 2 bi-district contest held at Grand Saline High School Monday night.
