Athens coach Jonathan Ryal’s soccer team has mometum on their side heading into their second tournament of the year this weekend.
Following a 2-0-1 finish in the Palestine tournament, the Hornets head to Marshall to take part in the Marshall Winter Cup.
They will open the tournament Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against District 31-4A rival Tyler Chapel Hill.
AHS returns on Friday for games against Carthage at 11:45 a.m. before returning to the pitch for a 7 p.m. contest against Marshall.
In their championship win over Kaufman last Saturday, AHS tied the game at 1-1 with five minutes remaining on a goal by Alfredo Vasquez.
The game was forced into penalty kicks as Enrique Rodriguez, Juan Mota, Cesar Ortega and in sudden death Osiel Nieto scored the game winner.
