JUNIOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Lady Cards take down MCC, 87-55

WACO — Six players scored in double figures Wednesday night to lead the fifth-ranked Lady Cardinals to an 87-55 rout of McLennan Community College in the MCC Shootout in Waco.

Adut Bulgak, who missed the Lady Cardinals’ 85-61 win against Hill College Tuesday night due to an injury, and Savannah Carter tossed in 16 points each to pace the double-digit scoring attack.

Also scoring in double figures were Dominique Brooks with 15, Krystle Henderson 12 and Shannon Smith and Shlonte’ Allen 11 each.

The win improved the Lady Cardinals to 14-1 on the year.

They are scheduled to return to action next Wednesday at Brenham against 14th-ranked and unbeaten Blinn College. Blinn was a 96-64 winner against LSU-Eunice Wednesday night to raise its record to 14-0. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

The next home game for the Lady Cardinals is Wednesday, Jan. 16 against Kilgore.

The Lady Cardinals have won 110 of their last 118 games since the last time they lost consecutive games in November of 2009 (a three-game losing streak). They have won 84 of 88 games since the start of the 2010-11 season.

The Cardinals get back to action Saturday at home against Lee College. Tipoff at Cardinal Gym is 4 p.m.

First-year coach Kris Baumann’s squad is 11-4 on the year and 2-2 in Region XIV Conference play. Lee is 10-5 overall and 2-2 in conference.

The Cardinals travel to Brenham to take on Blinn on Jan. 9 and will be at home on Jan. 12 to face Coastal Bend at 4 p.m.
