The Cain Center is requesting volunteers to come out for the Glow Run July 27 at 8:30 p.m.
The family fun event will begin with registration at 7:30 p.m. and feature a live band, a massage chair and crafts for the kids.
“We really need volunteers for traffic, drink stations and other areas and we have a new 10K route this year,” Cain Center sports coordinator Bethany Airhart said. “We need people out there with flash lights and at drink stations and stuff like that.”
Airhart said those who are interested in running can register at www.active.com with the cost being $35 for adults and $20 for children.
“The glow run is a night time run. We wanted to do a fun family type run that the community could participate in,” Airhart said. “We have a lot of competitive runners out here.”
For those who are participating in the event, you will be able to purchase glow in the dark T-shirts for the event.
“On active.com, you can order extra T-shirts and if you register here, you just need to indicate if you want more shirts.”
Currently, the Cain Center is working with the Athens police department to decide the route for this year’s race.
“The 5K route has been worn out and we are offering a 10k run now,” Airhart said. “We are going to have a live band that is going to come out and it will be more of an event than a race.”
She said with it being a longer race this year, they are wanting to keep it in the neighborhood.
They will post the scheduled route as soon as they receive approval from the police department.
Airhart said the event is scheduled to wrap up around 11:30-or-midnight at the Cain Center.
For more information or to register, you can contact the Cain Center at 903-677-2000 or go by their office at 915 South Palestine Street.
