HIGH SCHOOL TRACK: Track teams finish strong at Class 2A area meet

Athens — The Malakoff Tigers, Eustace Bulldogs and Kemp Yellowjackets track teams had a strong showing at the District 13-14AA area track meet April 16 at Kemp High School.

In the girls competition, the Eustace LadyDogs finished as the area runner up.

Four LadyDogs finished as area champions in Skye Burns with a first place finish in the 3,200-meters and the 1,600-meters.

Burns ran a 12:44 time in the 3,200-meters, and finished with a time of 5:50 in the 1,600. Madi Allen was the area champion in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.20.

She also advanced in the 100-or-110 meter hurdles with a fourth place finish in a time of 17.13.

In the discus, Grace Holcombe won the area title with a throw of 110 feet, eight inches.

Whitney Boerner won the title in the pole vault with a height of eight feet, six inches. Meagan Gunter advanced to regionals in the pole vault with a height of seven feet.

Teammate Caitlyn Culp also advanced to area in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, six inches.

Shelby White advanced to regionals in the 800-meters with a third place finish in a time of 2:35.78.

In the 1,600-meters, Chloe Moore advanced to regionals with a fourth place finish in a time of 5:56.97.

In the discus, Kasey Lopez finished in fourth place with a throw of 103 feet, 10 inches.

Kemp had three athletes advance to regionals as Kelsey Gage finished in second place in the 800-meters with a time of 2:33.05.

Madison Thompson advanced in the 400-meters with a third place finish. She finished in a time of 63.46 seconds.

In the field events, Madison Kerr advanced in the shot put as the area champion with a throw of 35 feet, nine inches.

The LadyJackets 4x400 meter relay team also advanced with a third place finish in a time of 4:20.18 seconds.

The Malakoff Lady Tigers had one girl advance as Kiana Reed finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 10 inches.

In the boys competition, Eustace had five individuals advance to regionals as Mark Zimmerer and Preston Schwartz went in the distance events.

Zimmerer finished second in the 1,600-meters in a time of 4:41.85 and finished third in the 3,200-meters in a time of 10:12.

Schwartz finished third in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:47.75 and finished fourth in the 3,200-meters in a time of 11:02.

Cade Yates advanced in the 800-meters with a time of 2:06.37.

In the pole vault, Cody Duncan and Lance Rogers advanced as Duncan finished first with a height of 11 feet. Rogers finished third as he finished with a height of 11 feet.

For the Yellowjackets, Jesus Perez finished first in the 3,200 and the 1,600 meters. Perez ran a time of 10:09.38 in the 3,200 and 4:41.17 in the 1,600-meters.

In the relay events, MHS advanced two teams with the 100-meter  team and the 800-meter team.

Jacob Woolverton is headed to regionals after finishing third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.72 seconds. He also advanced in the high jump with a third place finish as he cleared six feet.

Q.T. Barker finished second in the 200-meters with a time of 23.77.

The Class 2A, Region II meet is set for April 25-26 at Memorial Stadium/Oscar Fraser Track on the campus of Texas State University in Stephenville.
