ATHENS —
Now Trinity Valley Community College sophomore running back Josh Johnson has something else to go with his scarred helmet and tattered jersey.
On Thursday, Johnson was named a first-team All-American running back by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Johnson and Blinn’s Philander Moore were the only two Texas junior college football players to be named to the first-team offense.
In his sophomore season, Johnson (6-0, 195 pounds) led the Southwest Junior College Football Conference with 1,048 rushing yards, and he also rushed for 15 touchdowns.
TVCC sophomore kicker Jaimie Salazar also earned All-America honors, being named to the second team.
SWJCFC teams were well represented on the defensive side of the ball. Toby Jackson, of the national championship Navarro College Bulldogs, was a first-team pick on the defensive line. He was joined on the first team by Blinn’s Princeton Jackson, a linebacker, and Tyler Junior College defensive back Maurice Hood. All are sophomores.
