TVCC ATHLETIC BANQUET: Smith, Russell named top athletes at banquet

Athens — Sophomores Shannon Smith and Quincy Russell received the top honors during the third annual Trinity Valley Community College athletic sports banquet Tuesday night at Athens Country Club.

Smith and Russell were named the male and female athlete of the year after successful season’s in football and basketball this year.

Smith came to TVCC after transferring from the University of North Carolina.

She finished her junior college career among the conference leaders in scoring, assists, steals, 3-pointers made, 3-point percentage and free throws made and percentage.

She will be transfering to the University of Michigan in the fall.

Russell was a nose guard for the Cardinals and had 75 tackles this season.

Russell was named a first team all-SWJCFC defensive lineman and was runner up for the defensive player of the year.

Russell wIll take his skills to the University of Oklahoma this fall.

Cardinal Award — Jazmine Hicks

Female Athlete of the Year — Shannon Smith

Male Athlete of the Year — Quincy Russell
