HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Yellowjacket sting

Athens loses 4-2, now riding two game losing skid into season finale at Brownsboro

MINEOLA — The Athens Hornets lost another heartbreaker Friday night in District 15-3A action to the Mineola Yellowjackets, 4-2, at Yellowjacket Field.

First year head coach Dallas Robertson’s Hornets’ are now 16-12 on the year and 7-2 in District 15-3A play. Mineola is now one game back of Athens at 18-4 overall and 6-3 in district play.

Athens had the bases loaded in the top of the third inning with only one out and could not capitalize off Mineola starting pitcher Ryan Browning.

The Hornets offense had only four base runners in the final four innings of the game.

Athens wraps up the regular season next Friday night with a road trip to Brownsboro.
