Lightning cuts short Athens-Canton JV game

CANTON — The Athens Hornets junior varsity football team played the Canton Eagles JV this past Thursday in Canton.  

The game was cut short with 3:26 left in the second quarter due to lightning.   Although the Hornets were behind 14-12 the game was considered a no contest. The Hornets had just recovered a fumble and were driving the ball when the game was canceled.  

Touchdowns were scored by Nikell Roberts and David Cedillo. On defense, Richard Moore caused a fumble recovered by Logan Allen and Barrett Senycki also had a fumble recovery in the game.

The JV Hornets will travel to Van this week.

9th grade

Canton 36, Athens 16

The Athens freshman dropped a 36-16 setback against the Canton Eagles last week.

Logan Fuller had a seven-yard touchdown run, and Brandon Boyd finished it off with a two-point conversion.

Osbaldo Juarez added a 45-yard touchdown run, which was capped off by a Fuller two-point conversion run.
