TVCC’s Jordan named Marucci Elite hitter for 2014

Athens — The NJCAA has announced Lady Cardinal sophomore Erica Jordan has been named a Marucci Elite Hitter for the 2014 season.

The power-hitting third baseman for the Lady Cardinals had a .470 batting average for coach Ashley Johnston’s squad to earn the Elite Hitter title for the Region XIV East Zone.

She had 15 home runs, 2 triples, 14 doubles and drove in 63 runs.

In her two seasons, Jordan and the Lady Cardinals recorded 64 victories, went to the national tournament for the first time in school history, achieved the first-ever national ranking and posted second and third place regional tournament finishes.

Jordan will continue her education and playing career at the University of Texas at Tyler.

MHS softball picks up three superlatives

The Malakoff Lady Tigers picked up three superlative honors on the District 13-2A all-district team.

Hazel Puempel was named the Most Valuable Player, while Georgina Salazar was named the catcher of the year.

Candace Denis was named the offensive player of the year.

Coach Matt Wittram was named the coach of the year.

Abby Terzis and Jaynie Valero were named to the first team infield, while Katelyn Harris and Sierra Perez were named first team outfielders.

Cheyenne Ramsey was named as a second team infielder. Hannah Carter was selected as a second team outfielder.

County schools pick up all-district honors

Kemp and Eustace had a strong showing in the District 13-2A all-district softball team.

Kemp’s Grace Camacho received the only superlative as she was named the newcomer of the year.

Kemp had one selection to the first team in Brianna Pavatt, while Eustace LadyDog Ashleigh White was recognized.

They also had one selection each as a first team outfielder as Kemp’s Jodi Cox and Karen Cawthon from Eustace were recognized.

On the second team, Eustace had three selections in Meagan Sawyer, Abra Roberts and Shelby Marcom as first team outfielders. Michelle Gomez and Shelby White were named second team outfielders.

TVCC sets athletic summer camps

It’s time to camp out at Trinity Valley Community College.


June 9-13

The three-time defending national champion Lady Cardinals  are holding a shooting camp June 9-13 at Cardinal Gym.

The camp, open to boys and girls ages 5-15, is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Cost of the camp is $75.
