FRIDAY NIGHT FLASHBACK: Malakoff drops first game of the season, 45-27, to Lone Oak

LONE OAK — The Malakoff Tigers lost their first game of the season 45-27 Friday night against the high-powered Lone Oak Buffaloes.

With the loss, coach Jamie Driskell's team is now 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in District 7-2A, Division I play with a home game against the Kemp Yellowjackets next Friday night.

Lone Oak jumped out to an early 14-0 lead before Malakoff quarterback Stephan Wolfe handed off to speedster Damontes Dowell for the Tiger's opening touchdown. Dowell scampered for a 40-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 14-7 in the first half.

In the second half, the Tigers were able to tie the score at 14-14 as Wolfe once again handed off to Damontes Dowell — as he ran for a 43-yard touchdown past the Buffaloes defense. The extra point was good by the Tigers.

Later in the third quarter, Jacob Woolverton threw a 12-yard pass to Damontes Dowell to cut the Lone Oak lead to 26-20 before Lone Oak increased the lead to 33-21.

The Tigers scored their final touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter as Woolverton found Damontes Dowell for a 25-yard touchdown reception and the 45-27 finale.
