The TVCC Lady Cardinals volleyball team lost in five games to the No. 6-ranked Tyler Junior College Lady Apaches Wednesday night at Cardinal Gym.
TVCC lost by scores of 17-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-14 and 15-12.
Head coach Tosha Spain’s squad is now 12-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
They will return home tonight at 7 p.m. against No. 3-ranked Panola College.
ACP shutout by Fruitvale on Friday
FRUITVALE — The Athens Christian Prep Storm lost its football game against Fruitvale, 48-0, last Friday night.
The Storm (0-4) will look for it’s first win this week against Tyler King’s Academy in Tyler Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Red Birds ready for season opener
The Henderson County Red Birds will open its inaugural baseball season this Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Reds at Cain Park.
Coach Mike Samuels said fans can come out around 10:30 a.m. to meet the team and watch batting practice.
The Red Birds will be back at home on Oct. 5 as they take on the Rangers at 1 p.m. at Cain Park.
The Red Birds will be a member of the National Adult Baseball Association starting in November.
Area angler sets crappie record
Nine year old Esmeralda Acosta of Mabank set the Junior Angler record for Black Crappie on Sept. 21.
She caught a a 13 and 7/8”, 1.28-pound fish on a rod and reel off the fishing pier at Purtis Creek using a minnow.
Recent rains and cooler temperatures have increased the opportunity for catching almost all species.
