AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Eustace cross country teams win Blooming Grove meet

BLOOMING GROVE — BLOOMING GROVE — The Eustace cross country teams competed in Blooming Grove on Saturday and won the meet in the boys and girls divisions.

The varsity girls were able to pull off a tie breaker to win the meet with 39 points. The Pack was lead by freshman Skye Burns who ran a 13:10 and placed second overall, next was Breanna Ragan who placed fourth, Alyssa Shaddox placed 11th, Shelby White placed 13th, Chloe Moore placed 14th, and Harley Kile placed 15th.

The varsity boys also were meet champions with 39 points in the 4A and under division. Mark Zimmerer was the individual meet champion with a time of 16:25, following him was an unyielding group of Bulldogs, Hunter Rose placed eighth, Brandon Richardson placed ninth, Ayden Reed placed 10th, Zane Arambula placed 11th, Gabe Purselley placed 17th, and Cade Yates placed 18th.

The JV girls didn’t have a full team but Payton Schwartz and Jacey Warner represented the Bulldogs with a second and 19th place respectively.

The JV Boys placed firth out of the 14 teams there in the 4A and under division. They were lead by Alec Marable who was the meet champion, next was Elijah Rogers who placed fourth, then Michael Wong placed sixth, Brandon Hall placed 16th, Temple Hendrickson placed 20th, and Thomas Henderson placed 24th.

Cross Roads sweeps Hubbard in volleyball action

CROSS ROADS — The Cross Roads Lady Cats improved to 2-1 in district play with a sweep of Hubbard on Friday night.

The Lady Cats won by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-17.

Leading the way for Cross Roads was Laura Waldo with 12 digs and one kill, Pepper Norwood with 15-of-15 serving and four digs, Savanna Himes with 12-of-12 serving and two digs, Kelsey Lookabaugh with 22 assists and Rebecca Kramer — who went 7-of-9 serving with six kills and five digs.

K.K. Smith went 9-of-10 serving with six digs, Paulette Burgess had 13 kills and two blocks, Sara Spivey had four kills and two blocks and Kourtney Hazelip had four kills and two digs.

Cross Roads is at Trinidad tonight with varsity action starting at 5 p.m.

Malakoff loses district volleyball action to Eustace

EUSTACE — The Eustace Lady Dogs took care of business against Malakoff Friday night with a three-game victory over Malakoff.

The Lady Dogs won by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-15.

Brownsboro defeats Palestine in volleyball action

BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bearettes defeated Palestine in non-district action Friday night.

Brownsboro won in straight games by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-21.

Meagan Gailey led Brownsboro with five kills and an ace, Lexie Houston had five kills and two aces, LaDae Luqman had four kills and three aces, Beth Ann Loftin had a block and a kill.

Brittany Knippers had three kills and 11 digs, Madi Montogomery had three kills, 18 assists and two aces, Devin Carver had two kills, 8 assists and an ace, Macy Williams had a kill and four aces and Bailey McDonald had seven digs.
