The Mabank Lady Panthers advanced to the Class 4A, Region II semifinals Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over the Red Oak Lady Hawks at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
With the win, coach Matthew LeMoine’s Lady Panthers will play the winner of the Frisco Liberty and Wylie contest Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
The game will be played at Carrollton-Farmer’s Branch ISD’s Standridge Stadium.
If the Lady Panthers advance to the regional finals, the game will be played at 11 a.m. at Standridge Stadium on Saturday morning for a trip to the state tournament.
Red Oak jumped out on the Lady Panthers 1-0 with a goal at the 15:33 mark of the first half but the Lady Panthers would not go away in the second half.
Mabank’s senior standout Savannah Henderson scored both of the Lady Panthers goals in the final 40 minutes to give them the 2-1 win.
The Lady Panthers were eliminated in the regional quarterfinals last year by Red Oak 4-2 at Forney High School.
This is the farthest the Lady Panthers soccer team has made it in the playoffs during the school’s history.
