ATHENS —
Trinity Valley Community College sophomores Tucker Carter and Jermaine Longino have been named the Southwest Junior College Football Conference All-Conference Team offensive and defensive most valuable players, respectively.
Carter, a 6-3, 220-pound quarterback, was the catalyst for the conference’s second-ranked offense. He was 163 of 264 for 2,423 yards with 25 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. He also rushed for 302 yards and eight scores.
Longino, a 5-10, 220-pound linebacker, led the Cardinals with 72 tackles on the conference’s top-rated defense.
Navarro wide receiver Marquez Clark — who broke conference records for receptions (75) and receiving yards (1,331) and scored 14 touchdowns — was named the overall most valuable player.
The Cardinals placed four players on the first team in addition to the selections of Carter and Longino.
Offensive lineman Travon Carter, a 6-2, 330-pound sophomore, joined fellow second-year player Nate Richards (6-4, 290) on the first team. Richards was picked at center. Carter and Richards were anchors of a front unit that paved the way for an offense that rushed for more than 2,000 yards and averaged 481.4 yards per game.
On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore defensive back Martez Shabazz (6-0, 165) was named to the first team, while punter Brad Dunavant (6-0, 200) rounded out the list. Shabazz had an interception this season and was tied for the team lead in tackles for a loss at seven. Dunavant averaged 38.9 yards per punt.
Second team selections for TVCC were: James Jackson, tight end, 6-1, 235-pound sophomore; Derel Walker, wide receiver, 6-2, 180-pound sophomore; Vedial Johnson, running back, 6-2, 220-pound freshman; Gant Kiolbassa, defensive line, 6-2, 230-pound freshman; Keivon Gamble, defensive back, 5-10, 175-pound sophomore; and Saul Martinez, placekicker, 5-10, 185-pound freshman.
