COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Local athletes set for national stage

Athens — The 2013-2014 college football bowl season will showcase a mix of local talent as four former Trinity Valley Cardinal players and a former Athens Hornet will make their way to the national stage.

Former Hornet wide receiver and now Texas Longhorn Kendall Sanders will take part in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Monday, Dec. 30. Sanders has 35 catches for 351 yards this season.

He will look to help the 8-4 Longhorns to a win over the 10-2 Oregon Ducks on ESPN at 5:45 p.m. central time.

On Tuesday, Dec. 31, Texas A&M senior wide out Derel Walker — who play junior college football at Trinity Valley — faces off against No. 24-ranked Duke Blue Devils in a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Walker has had 45 catches for 705 yards this season for the Aggies.
