Tyler trips Cards again
TJC ties TVCC in standings with 76-67 win
Tyler — TYLER — The Tyler Junior College Apaches have just had TVCC’s number this season.
The Apaches (15-6, 8-5) completed a season sweep of the Cardinals (19-5, 8-5) with a 76-67 win over TVCC in Region XIV Conference action Saturday at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
The win allowed the Apaches — who beat TVCC, 84-82, in double overtime at Cardinal Gym earlier this season — to tie TVCC for third place in the Region XIV North Zone standings. TVCC Head Coach Pat Smith leads his Cardinals into battle again in Brenham Wednesday against Blinn. Tip-off for that game is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Cardinals, who saw their four-game winning streak snapped, were led in scoring by Chris Blake, who finished with 16 points. Stretch Watson had 14 points and KeAndre Derrick also scored in double figures with 11.
TVCC was 4 of 17 from the three-point line. Blake had two of those threes, and Reggie Stallings and Jeff Stubbs had one each.
The Apaches got 20 points from Kyle Ford.
TJC led TVCC at halftime, 35-28.
The Cardinals return home Feb. 13 against Paris Junior College in a 4 p.m. tip-off.
