After one round, Henderson County’s lone playoff team is still standing.
The Eustace Lady Bulldogs (29-8) overcame a shaky start to defeat the Edgewood Lady Bulldogs (18-18), 3-1, in a Region III-2A bi-district contest Tuesday night at Mabank High School. Eustace dropped the first game, 25-22, but won the final three by scores of 25-15; 28-26; and 25-15.
Eustace, which has been to the playoffs for 11 consecutive seasons, will face District 16-2A champion Redwater Thursday at 7 p.m. at Longview High School.
Eustace has now advanced to the area round in each of the past five seasons, and it has made the regional quarterfinals in four of the past five — including last season.
“To me, we really didn’t play with any consistency,” Eustace head coach Chuck Powers said. “We’d make a run, then give it away, and we just never played with the kind of intensity you need to at this point.”
Powers got a well-rounded effort, with his twin towers — Kacie Richards (13 kills) and Bethany Strickland (five kills) dominating at the net. Mallory Keeling, Casey Bramblitt, Peyton DeBari and Chelsea Oldham came up with several big plays, as well.
