HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: CRHS defeats West Rusk, 29-25

CROSS ROADS — The Cross Roads LadyCats improved to 12-7 on the year with a 29-25 win over West Rusk on Monday.

The LadyCats are scheduled to open district play tonight at home against Wortham. The junior varsity is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

In the win over West Rusk, Paulette Burgess had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, Kourtney Hazelip and Cnai Wilson scored four points each, Sara Spivey added two points and nine rebounds and Kelsi Lookabaugh had six assists.

Coach Giff Durham said Pepper Norwood and Avery Newman helped in the win.

MHS splits games at Frankston Classic

FRANKSTON — The Malakoff Lady Tigers split two games at the Frankston Classic on Monday and Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers lost to Troup, 50-47, and beat Frankston, 61-42.

In the win over Frankston, Malakoff was led in scoring by Plandreika Jackson with 17 points, Kiana Reed with a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds and Hayley Thomas with 15 points.

In the loss to Troup, Thomas led the with 15 points, while Jaynie Valero added eight points and nine rebounds, and Reed had six points and seven rebounds.
