JUNIOR COLLEGE RODEO: Moving up the ladder

TVCC men third in standings after nice performance in Conroe

CONROE — The TVCC Rodeo Team competed in Conroe this past weekend at the Sam Houston State University National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Rodeo.

Team members Wenceslao “Lightning” Aguilera and Kolby Miller won the Team Roping. They won the long go with a time of a 5.0, the short go and the average. Lightning and Kolby are currently No. 1 in the Southern Region standings after five, which is half of the regional rodeos.

Freshman, Kacey Kirby from Burleson placed third in the first round of Barrel Racing with a time of 15.83. Sophomore Garrett Jones placed sixth in the first round of bareback with a score of 68 and 6th in the average.

“The team showed a great deal of maturity at this rodeo,” TVCC rodeo coach Brent Bratton said. “The men’s team placed third, moving TVCC up in the standings. They are keeping us in the race for a team qualification for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming in June.

“This could not be done without the support of the college and the community, without their support, it would not be possible for the team to go and be a part of these rodeos.”
