ATHENS —
Four Henderson County area teams qualified for the high school football playoffs last Friday night.
The Athens Hornets (4-6) will face the Kilgore Bulldogs (8-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Whitehouse. Athens is in the playoffs for the third time in four seasons, but looking for its first postseason win since 2010.
The Malakoff Tigers (7-3) will face the Redwater Dragons (5-5) in Gladewater in another 7:30 p.m. start Friday. Malakoff is in the playoffs for a fourth straight season for the first time in school history.
The Eustace Bulldogs (5-5), who has been in the playoffs a county-best five straight years, will take on the tradition-rich Daingerfield Tigers (7-3) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Bullard Brook Hill.
The Trinidad Trojans (7-3), meanwhile, will face the Jonesboro Eagles (8-2) in a 7:30 p.m. start Friday at Penelope. Trinidad is returning to the playoffs after a one-year absence. The Trojans had been 10 straight years prior to that.
