Cayuga runs by Bobcats

Shead leads way, 53-0

BETHEL — The Cross Roads Bobcats knew they were going to have their hands full with Cayuga’s superstar running back Traylon Shead.

Shead didn’t disappoint.

Shead — who entered the game with 1,446 yards and 22 touchdowns and is being recruited by major Division I and Big 12 schools as a junior — scored six first half touchdowns — including a 97-yarder — en route to a 53-0 win over the Bobcats in the second week of District 20-A action.

Cayuga, the No. 10-ranked team in the Associated Press Class A poll, improved to 5-1 on the season. Cross Roads dropped to 1-5 and 0-2 in district play.

The Wildcats scored five times in the first quarter, with two touchdowns coming off turnovers. A Bobcat interception set up the first Wildcat score, a 12-yard run by Shead at the 9:56 mark. With Cory Perry’s PAT, the Wildcats led 7-0.

A 60-yard touchdown toss from Brock January to Malcome Kennedy and January’s fumble recovery and return for touchdown pushed it to 21-0.

Shead scored twice more before the final buzzer, first on a 16-yard scamper and then from 37 yards out to make it 33-0. The last score of the first quarter was set up by another Bobcat interception.

The Wildcats pushed their lead to 53-0 at the half on three more Shead runs — from 30, 97 and 3 yards away.

The Bobcats had a good chance to score in the second half but missed out when they fumbled.
