Westwood hammers Bears

After 4-0 start, Brownsboro drops second straight game, 51-22

PALESTINE — The Brownsboro Bears are usually the ones doing all the scoring.

That trend ended Friday night, when it was Palestine Westwood bringing all the offensive firepower to the table in a 51-22 win over the Bears in the District 20-AAA opener for both treams.

The Bears, who hadn’t scored less than 40 points over their first five games, dropped to 4-2 on the season. Westwood improved to 3-3.

Westwood jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead on a 1-yard D.J. Morrow run, a 34-yard field goal by Tyler Dillon and a 12-yard pass from Mark Reed to Tevin Watson.

Brownsboro cut the lead to 17-14 on a Cameron Warren 1-yard touchdown run and a 65-yard pass to Warren from quarterback Zach Bailey. Bailey’s two-point pass to Keith Johnson cut the lead to three.

Westwood then ran away with the game, scoring the next five touchdowns, including 27 points in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Owens had an 11-yard scoring pass to Jon Jon Thompson in the fourth quarter.

Brownsboro returns to action next week at home against Fairfield. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
