Cardinal Hall of Fame draws 30 nominations

Up to 10 inductees to be announced in June

The nominations are in.

Organizers of the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinal Hall of Fame are one step closer to naming the inaugural class.

The deadline for nominations was May 5. According to TVCC Athletic Director Michael Landers, the college has received nomination forms for 30 individuals.

The first class of the Cardinal Hall of Fame will be inducted this fall. The hall will honor past athletes and Cardinal coaches in all sports as well as fans who have been loyal supporters of the Cardinal programs over the years.

“It’s going to be a really tough decision. There are a lot of good names in the nominations,” said Landers.

With the deadline gone, the next step for the college is gathering information on each individual. In the next few weeks, statistical information will be gathered on each coach, player and fan nominated.

According to Landers, a group made of college administrators and community members will look at all the statistical information and make a final decision in the next couple of months.

Players and coaches who have been nominated will be assessed on their performance both during and after their time at TVCC. Fans will be judged based on their length of commitment to the program and other factors.

“We should be ready to make an announcement on the first class in mid- to late-June,” said Landers.

Homecoming this year is scheduled for Oct. 11. The official induction ceremony will take place at a banquet that day.

According to the new bylaws of the Cardinal Hall of Fame, up to 10 members can be inducted the first two years. After that time, up to five new members can be inducted each year.

To be named into the hall of fame, an athlete must have been a student more than five years ago. Athletes can have participated in football, basketball or cheerleading.

Coaches must also have five years since leaving TVCC’s employ if they are still actively coaching. Coaches who have retired are immediately eligible for induction.
