The Athens Hornets came up on the short end of a 40-38 score in a non-district game against the Kaufman Lions at the AHS g ym Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped first-year AHS coach T racy Carter’s squad to 8-12 on the season.

Freshman Nick Monmouth led the Hornets on a fourth-quarter rally with eight points. He missed a three-pointer at the buzzer in an attempt to give AHS the win.
