Things didn’t go the Athens Hornets’ way Friday night — at home or away.

Red Oak hung on for a 6-4 win over the Hornets in a Distrcti 14-AAAA baseball finale at Hornet field. But that didn’t eliminate AHS from postseason contention.

What happened in the Corsicana-Ennis game did. Corsicana scored a 7-0 win, leaving Coach Tony Sikes’ Hornets on the outside in fourth place.

The Hornets closed the season 13-11. They were 6-4 in district.

Red Oak took control of the game with an early five-run inning.

Hugo Valdez took the loss on the mound for the Hornets.
