PASADENA — Make it six straight.

The No. 22 Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals overcame an injury to freshman point guard Lonnika Thompson to outlast San Jacinto for a 92-88 overtime win Saturday afternoon to claim their sixth straight outright Region XIV Conference championship.

Thompson went down with an ankle injury six minutes into the game, leaving the Lady Cardinals with seven players. TVCC coach Michael Landers said she will not play Tuesday when the Lady Cardinals host Lon Morris in a regular season finale at 5:30 p.m. Her status for the Region XIV Tournament is unknown.

TVCC won for an 11th straight time to improve to 23-6. The Lady Cardinals are 14-3 in the conference and two games up on both Tyler and Blinn with one game left.

San Jacinto dropped to 15-13 and 9-9.

“W had a couple of chances to win it in regulation, but were not able to,” Landers said. “But we played hard and through some difficult situations to find a way to win.”

“It was a greatt effort. had some players step up.”

Stephanie Madden had 23 points and n ine rebounds to lead TVCC. Darika Hill added 22 points and eight rebounds.

Zane Jakobsone had 14 points, followed by Ashley Walker with 13 and Ashley Crawford with 11. Crawford also had 14 assists.

TVCC was up 44-37 at the half and the score was tied 82-82 at the end of regulation.

The Lady Cardinals will receive a bye in the opening ro und of the regional tournament, which begins Friday at Lon Morris College. TVCC’s first game will be in the semifinals Sunday afternoon.

Cardinals fall, 112-101

The TVCC men weren’t as fortunate as the Lady Cardinals. They dropped a 112-101 decision.

The loss was the third straight for the Cardinals, who fell to 18-11 on the season and 13-8 in leagu play.

TVCC, which has alread clinched a regional tournament berth, is third in the conference with one game to go. The Cardinals are one game up on Navarro.

TVCC is scheduled to be at home Tuesday to close the regular season against Lon Morris. Game time is 7:30 p.m. after the women’s game at 5:30 p.m.
