MAIL CALL: H.R. 3962 story belonged on editorial page

Athens Daily Review, Tuesday, November 3, 2009, “Hensarling’s representatives deliver 1,990-page document Monday” by Lauren Ricks, associate editor, did not belong on the front page as a news story.

Since it was a one-sided negative criticism of H.R. 3962 – Affordable Health Care for America Act, the biased views should have been labeled editorial and placed on the opinion page.

This is exactly the ploy I have come to expect from FOX News. They editorialize day and night, and present their views as empirical fact. It is disappointing to see the Athens Review become a political rag for polarizing and divisiveness.

I am interested in both news and views, but I expect each to be properly identified.

If I can’t trust my local newspaper to distinguish fact from opinion, what source can I trust?

Obviously, my letter reflects one opinion, and therefore, it belongs on the editorial page – if it makes it to print.

I subscribe to the Athens Review for local news and opinions. I am not interested in a repeat of FOX News. I get that via satellite.

Editor’s Note: The Tuesday, Nov. 3 front-page article referred to was, we believe, an expression of an event which occurred locally.

We do not view the story as an opinion piece, and therefore, put it on the front page while it involved the actions of those who delivered a copy of a House bill on behalf of an elected U.S. Representative.

    One of the few advantages of growing older is that you can schedule the taking of your prescription drugs, based on  your own personal alarm clock.
    From what I’ve been told by the older folks, of which I’m a very borderline member, if you can’t remember any other time to take your pills, do it the first time your bladder wakes  you up in the middle of the night.

    If you were to ask the question, “What do the Christian Left and atheists have in common?” the answer might be that many of them believe in the modern version of separation of church and state. I believe the difference between them is that the Christian Left is just uninformed about the historical truths, while the atheist is being guided, knowingly or not, by the hand of Satan.
