MAIL CALL: Brown hasn’t been supportive of retired school personnel

In regard to the letters posted in The Review on Jan. 19, 2010, and the news story headlined “Gooden Takes Brown to Task at Public Forum,” I attended the forum, which was graciously hosted by the Republican Women of Henderson County, and feel that the story as reported by Robby Robertson is an accurate account of the event.

I am sorry that Ms. Fournet is offended at Mr. Gooden’s reference to Representative Brown as “a nice lady.” That was very appropriate and polite considering the “not so nice” literature concerning Mr. Gooden that had been placed in the chairs by Mrs. Brown’s campaign manager.

Mr. King stated that Lance Gooden lived in Kaufman during his teens. Mr. Gooden stated that he was born and raised in Terrell to parents who are both educators, and he attended Terrell Public Schools...not Kaufman.

I am glad that Representative Brown is so helpful to Mr. King’s group and their cause. To my knowledge, Betty Brown has not been supportive of retired school personnel who are members of Texas Retired Teachers Association in the 10 – not six years that she has been in office.

The Association has some 263,000 retired participants who have not had a COLA since 2001. She has certainly had many letters and other correspondence asking for her support.

To the Review, thank you for your fine efforts to keep the people of Henderson County informed and allowing space to share our concerns and opinions.

    One of the few advantages of growing older is that you can schedule the taking of your prescription drugs, based on  your own personal alarm clock.
    From what I’ve been told by the older folks, of which I’m a very borderline member, if you can’t remember any other time to take your pills, do it the first time your bladder wakes  you up in the middle of the night.
