MAIL CALL: Get out and vote

The Athens Review

Athens — Dear District 4 Voters,

You have the opportunity to decide how our county will be represented in Austin for the next two years.  I, for one, will be choosing the conservative voice of experience, commitment, and dedication of State Rep. Betty Brown.  Betty Brown has served us well, always putting the needs of our district first.  After all, this is home to Rep. Brown and her family, and she cares for your family as she cares for her own.

She has worked tirelessly to expand the highways between Athens and Canton and Athens and Mabank.  She was crucial in bringing in the company that transformed the old K-Mart building to a call center that brought in hundreds of jobs.  Dallas fought hard to get that call center, but Betty worked with the Texas Speaker to make sure the jobs came to her district.  She has worked hard to stop illegal immigrants from voting in our elections.  She also stood up to the governor when he vetoed a program important to TVCC employees, which led him to overturn his own veto.

Simply put, I want to be represented by someone who has been here to experience what we’ve been through, and someone old enough to have some life experience.  I also want to be represented by someone who actually owns a home and pays property taxes here.   Betty has always been very available to the district, which enables me to know her and trust her. (She also sends me a weekly e-newsletter to keep me informed of what's going on.)

Like many of you, I am turned off by a negative campaign.  I have received distasteful recorded messages on my home phone from her opponent and read “testimonial” letters that contain absurd untruths.  I am disgusted that he would describe her as “un-Christian."  I have seen her young opponent promise _federal_ programs to potential voters, something a state representative can’t legally do, and promise huge several thousand dollar raises that taxpayers would have to pay for.

I have heard enough.  I’m going with the high road.  I’m voting for State Representative Betty Brown.

Please get out and vote.

    Men and women in shorts are now running around with a round ball. They’ll be dominating the sports calander for the next couple of months. We’re just a few weeks away from March Madness, and after that, the NBA playoffs.

    One of the few advantages of growing older is that you can schedule the taking of your prescription drugs, based on  your own personal alarm clock.
    From what I’ve been told by the older folks, of which I’m a very borderline member, if you can’t remember any other time to take your pills, do it the first time your bladder wakes  you up in the middle of the night.

    If you were to ask the question, “What do the Christian Left and atheists have in common?” the answer might be that many of them believe in the modern version of separation of church and state. I believe the difference between them is that the Christian Left is just uninformed about the historical truths, while the atheist is being guided, knowingly or not, by the hand of Satan.
