MAIL CALL: Volunteers made tax program a success

I want to thank the volunteers who worked hard to make the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program (free income tax help) a resounding success once again for 2007.

They are: Peter Sullivan, Yvonne and David Flanigan of Gun Barrel City, John Dees of Trinidad, Ann and Elbert Morrow of Seven Points, Pete Wilson and Shirley Dyess of Tool. Working with these fine people is a joy and I want to publicly acknowledge their good work. If you know any of them, please tell them about this letter and thank them for their community service.

These volunteers gave generously of their talents from February through mid-April at our three Tax-Aide sites in Athens, Malakoff and Seven Points. They completed over 700 returns during that time and provided assistance to many others. I hope they will all agree to serve again in 2009 so we can continue this helpful program.

Also, our program needs new volunteers who are computer-literate, willing to learn tax law, and interested in becoming leaders in the program. We need a district technology coordinator and a new local coordinator.
