MAIL CALL: Send the right message to the community

Editor,
As regards the upcoming AISD bond election, I believe that business and community leaders should lead boldly, take a stand and speak out in favor of what is in the best interest of their community and the next generation of leadership, our school-aged children. My hope is that those in favor of the bond will call a friend (or two or three) and encourage them to vote on Saturday. Those opposed have the right to express their opposition in a democratic society. Thanks to education, they have the tools to do so.
Personally, I feel that the proposed plan falls short of addressing the real needs of arguably the most important aspect of building and maintaining a strong community. That said, passage of this bond proposal is a move in the right direction. It will send a clear message to our school-aged children, their parents, grandparents and especially those who dedicate their lives and careers to education, that this community appreciates and believes in them.
How disappointing it would be to send any other message.
