Dorothy Stover

Funeral services for Dorothy Stover, 78, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Cooper Funeral Home of Athens. She passed away Friday evening in Palestine.

Dorothy Stover was born September 12, 1929, in Waco, Texas to Robert and Bertha Louise Schlemmer Muchow. She attended schools in Waco and moved to Athens in the 1950s. She was a homemaker and served with the East Texas Ladies Auxiliary for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Porter Stover on March 3, 2008.

Survivors include her children, Dee and Keith Somerville of Hamlin, West Virginia, Dennis Rittenhouse of Athens, Leesa and Gary Thomason of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike and Sue Stover of Athens; grandchildren, Sam and April Somerville, Sabrina Walker, Denny and Katy Rittenhouse, Jessica Minkley, Carla and Jesse Maddox, Robert and Shona Rolen, Gary Rolen, Jennifer and Matt Lehr, Michele Thomason; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon Somerville, Angela Minkley and Larry D. Rittenhouse IV.

Pallbearers include Sam Somerville, Robert Rolen, Gary Rolen, Jesse Maddox, Kenneth Poovey, Larry Tiner and James “Wally” Walker.

The family will receive condolences before the funeral service on Wednesday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd. Tyler, Texas, 75701.
