Athens — Funeral services for Helen Jewel Barton Tompkins are scheduled for March 12 at Faith Baptist Church in Brownsboro at 10 a.m., with Bill Watson officiating.

Interment will be at Jennings Mountain Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Helen Jewel Barton Tompkins was born on Oct. 16, 1913, in Brownsboro to Minnie Eugenia “Genie” Holiman Barton and Horace Chilton Barton. She had three younger sisters, Jack, Mary Lou and Betty Jean. She married Troy Tompkins in 1932, and they had one son, Larry Barton Tompkins.

Helen’s greatest joy was cooking for the family she loved. She even made “tea cakes” for the great-grandchildren the week before she passed away.

Helen is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Moss, of Brownsboro; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Tompkins, of Houston; grandchildren, Kathy Naumann, of Plano; Bridget and Tom Tomlinson, of Houston; and Mark Tompkins, of San Francisco; and great-grandchildren, Jordan and Theresa Naumann; and Geoffrey and Avery Tomlinson.

Pallbearers will be Joe Masso, Joey Fitzgerald, Mark Tompkins, Jordan Naumann, Tom Tomlinson and Geoffrey Tomlinson.
