Jean Scarborough

ATHENS — Jean Scarborough, 74, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Athens at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jack Matkin officiating.

The service will be followed by a reception.

Jean Scarborough was a wonderful homemaker, beloved wife and mother, and always a lady. She loved to play games, organize family time, and fish, fish, fish. She was a lifetime member of the Arlington Bass Club, current member of the Athens Bass Club, former volunteer at the Texas Freshwater Fishery Center, and member of First United Methodist Church. She was named Arlington Bass Club's Sportsman of the Year in 1986 and Athens Bass Club's Angler of the Year in 1999. She was also featured in the March 1993 issue of Honey Hole fishing magazine as “Lady on the Lake.”

Jean Scarborough was born Jackie Jean Oualline on Oct. 12, 1935, in San Antonio, to  E.N. Oualline and Helen Ada Jacoby Oualline. She graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1953 as valedictorian. She received a B.B.A in accounting from Texas A & I in 1956, graduating summa cum laude. She married John R. Scarborough in 1956. They raised a family in Arlington, and retired in Athens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her sister, Joan Oualline McKenzie.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John R. Scarborough; brother Charles E. Oualline and wife, Janice, of San Antonio; daughter, Sherry Scarborough Talbert and husband, Richard Talbert, of College Station; daughter, Laurie Scarborough Schuller and husband, Michael Schuller, of College Station; son, Alan Scarborough and wife, Tracy Scarborough, of Duncanville; and seven grandchildren.
