A memorial service for Carl (Buster) Stringfield, 87, of Poynor will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 10:00 am at Poynor Baptist Church with the Rev. J. A. Griffin, Rev. Fred Neal, and Rev. Jeff Godwin officiating. Burial will take place at Poynor City Cemetery under the direction of Autry Funeral Home of Frankston.
Mr. Stringfield passed away March 4, 2013, at 6:40 am under the care of The Hospice of East Texas. He was born September 23, 1925 in Poynor to Doc & Jewel Stringfield.
Carl lived all of his life in the Poynor Community. He graduated from LaPoynor School and Henderson County Junior College and then went into the Air Force and was stationed at Iwo Jima. He was recently featured on KLTV’s Freedom Fighters program with Joan Hallmark. He enjoyed being interviewed and featured on the program as he talked about his war experience. He was very proud of his service to his country.
Carl returned to LaPoynor Schools after his military service and became the head maintenance and bus mechanic for 45 years and was a valuable asset to them. He retired from the school, but not the community. Carl continued to be a service to the Poynor Community by repairing appliances, etc. in his workshop behind his home. He worked on a variety of things from a 100 year old pendulum clock for the school, a doctor’s hydraulic chair, to a solar fish feeder. He was a talented man that will be tremendously missed in his community.
Carl was an avid gardener, who grew the finest tomatoes in East Texas. He enjoyed talking with others about his secrets to a successful garden.
On August 12, 1946, Carl married the love of his life Marie Murphy and they had three children and have been married for 66 years.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Dock & Jewel Stringfield, his brother Harrison Stringfield, his sister Bonnie Bayless and his daughter, Belinda Hardman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Stringfield of Poynor; daughter Debbie Coker & husband David of Bullard; son, Wendell Stringfield & wife Bonnie of Poynor; son-in-law Johnny Hardman of Eastland; granddaughters, Juli, & Jessica Hardman of Eastland, Jennifer Montoya & husband Chris of Abilene, Christi Coker of Flint, Stephanie Mahler & husband Jorden of Katy, Lindsey Almeida & husband Anthony of Poynor; great grandson Evan Almeida of Poynor, and great granddaughter Bea Hardman of Eastland.
Carl was raised in a large family and is survived by his sisters, Alyne Oden of Palestine, Nell Owen of Magnolia, AR, Janie Berry of Palestine, and Jo McCalister & husband Bill of Lufkin; brothers Gayton Stringfield of Palestine and Robert Stringfield & wife Sue of Whitehouse; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ben Haynes, John Pagitt, Jimmy Westbrook, Joe Dale Dickerson, Jamey Hyde, and Thomas Ray Pagitt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Holcomb, Richard Palmer, and Bennie Douglas.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

The family wished to thank all their friends and family for the calls, cards, food, flowers and concern during Carl’s illness. A special thanks to the Hospice nurses, Alice Gracey and Donna White, and Dr. Gross and Dr. Dickson.
