ATHENS-Services for Dorothy Elliott Pollard, 91, Tyler, formerly of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Athens with Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating.
Burial will follow in the Chandler Cemetery, Chandler.
Mrs. Pollard died Jan. 16, 2013 in Tyler.
She was born March 15, 1921 in Bowie County to the late William Euell and Ruby Mae Oglesby. Following graduation from Chandler High School, Dorothy earned a Bachelor and Master’s degree in education from East Texas State College. Her teaching career began in Chandler as principal and basketball coach.
Mrs. Pollard moved to Athens in 1958, where she completed her 37-year career at Athens High School, teaching business, short-hand and vocational education. Dorothy was an avid reader, loved to cook, play bridge, forty-two and was a master at needlework.
She married Alton Rudolph Pollard in Chandler on Dec. 17, 1944. Alton preceded her in death in 2001. A brother, William E. Elliott, and sister, Betty Jo Hardee, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Patricia Regester, Tyler; grandsons Jim Regester and wife Dana, Flint, Jason Regester and wife Katie, Tyler; great-grandchildren Kyle Regester, Ashlee Regester, Amie Regester, Kyndal Regester; nieces Deborah Hardee Gardiner, Athens, Pamela Ann Hardee Burdick, San Antonio, numerous other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Charles Elliott, Bill Gardiner, Butch Elliott, Gary Bass, Sam Pollard, III, James Regester, Bill Pollard and Jimmy Pollard.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Alliance of Northeast Texas, 211 Winchester Dr., Tyler, TX 75701-8847.
The Pollard family extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Reunion Inn, Providence Park nurses and staff, Fay McGee and Clara Frizzell for the loving care given to Dorothy.
