David Luther Goforth, 89, of Dallas passed away Dec. 5, 2012 due to complications of lung cancer. David was born April 21, 1923 in Garland. He is preceded in death by his parents, Campbell David Goforth and Mary Etta Rose Goforth, and sister Ida Goforth Hurst. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bettye White Goforth, son Samuel Goforth and wife Charlotte, daughter Teresa Goforth Kinkaid, daughter Diane Goforth Bray, son Timothy Goforth and wife Julie, son Mark Goforth and wife Christine; grandchildren Matthew Goforth and wife Stephanie, Keith Bray and wife Alison, Jonathan Goforth and wife Rebecca, Priscilla Kinkaid, Seth Bray and wife Amber, Sterling Bray, Presley Kinkaid, Violet Goforth, Cody Goforth, Jake Goforth, DavidRay Goforth, Nathan Goforth, Lillian Goforth. great-grandchildren Jordan Slagle, Sophie Goforth, Mitchell Goforth, Kyla Bray, Kaeli Kinkaid, Evan Bray, Hudson Bray.
David graduated from Garland High School in 1940, and attended North Texas Agricultural College (A&M). He honorably served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during WWII as Aviation Cadet V-5. Worshipful Master of Garland Masonic Lodge, Worthy Patron of the Garland Eastern Star, Founder and First Worshipful Master of the Vickery Masonic Lodge, former Director of Southern Bank of Garland, Ordained Deacon of First Babtist Dallas, former President of the White Rock Rotary Club. He was formerly a resident of Garland and Athens.
David was an avid softball player, and enjoyed square dancing. David never met a stranger, and was well-known for his jokes. In leuw of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Dallas, or the charity of your choice.
Public viewing Friday Dec. 7, 2012 at Williams Funeral Home of Garland from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., 1600 South Garland Ave., Garland, TX 75040
Services will be Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Williams Funeral Home of Garland at 10:30 a.m., with burial to directly follow at Garland Memorial Park.
