Services for Douglas Robert Coker, 90, of Hurst, formerly of the Bethel Community, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Sunday at the Meredith Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. John Woodard officiating.
Mr. Coker died Nov. 8, 2012 in North Richland Hills.
He was born Nov. 21, 1921 in the Bethel Community in Henderson County to the late Walter Kellet and Mattie Armenthia Dennis Coker. and was a resident of the community most of his life. In 2004. he moved to Parker County. then to Tarrant County to be near his son.
He was a business man, farmer and cattle rancher all of his life. Upon retirement he continued to ranch and do woodworking.
Douglas was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. Douglas was married to Laverne Shull Coker 52 years, and was her caregiver during her last years. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brother Garland, Glenn, W. K., Raymond, sisters Eva Faulk and Laverne Owens.
Survivors include son Mike Coker and wife Jacquelyn, grandson Clif Coker and wife Donna, all of Hurst, great-granddaughter Cammie Coker, numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Meals on Wheels, 3344 SH 31 East, Athens, Texas 75752.
