ATHENS-Services for Roy Glyn “Shorty” Hawkins, 79, Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 in Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Fondren officiating.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Hawkins died Aug. 31, 2013 at home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1933 in Kerens to the late Ira B. and Laura Mae Sloan Hawkins. “Shorty” moved to Athens in 1957. He originally worked for Olive Meyers and retired from Curtis Mathes Manufacturing Company in 1988 after a 28-year tenure. He was a designer and supervisor in the cabinet department.
Following retirement, Mr. Hawkins remained active with his rental properties. He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Lee Hawkins and sister, Linda Sue Barnett.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years Betty Goines Hawkins, Athens; daughters Sherry Sloan and husband Phil, Tyler, Debora Pierce, Athens; brother Daniel Wayne Hawkins, Athens; sister Gladys Collins, Tyler; grandchildren Bianca Wilson, Mabank, Glyn Philip Renn, Chandler and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Hawkins, Tommy Hawkins, Johnny Hawkins, Harold Hawkins, Kent Smith and Tommy Reynolds.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Douglas Curran and Wayne Smallwood.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday.
