Athens — ATHENS-Services for Merle Meador, 78, Lufkin, formerly of the New York Community and Tyler, were held at 3 p.m., Sunday Sept. 22, 2013 in New York Baptist Church with the Rev. Olin Boles and the Rev. Donald Thomas officiating.

Burial followed in New York Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mrs. Meador died Sept. 20, 2013 in Lufkin.

She was born Sept. 16, 1935 in Athens to the late Irk Murphy and Eula Mae Dingler Meador. Merle was raised in the New York Community, and following graduation from LaPoyner High School, she moved to Houston to begin her career life. She first worked for an insurance company and at retirement was an associate with a title company. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church of Houston.

After residing in Houston for 47 years, she moved back to the East Texas area, first living in Tyler four years then Lufkin the past five years.

She was preceded in death by brothers Eugene and Charles Donald Meador, sisters, Delores Meador, Gwendolyn Riegel and Wanda Watters.

Survivors include sisters, Carolyn Schmidt and husband Charles, Diboll, Evelyn Thomas, Houston, sisters-in-law, Jane Meador, Hewitt, Barbara Davis, Jacksonville and numerous nieces and nephews.
