Athens- Memorial services for John “J.W.” Nix, 70, Kerens, have been scheduled for 2 p.m., Aug. 3, 2013 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Bristow officiating.
John passed away Wednesday, July 24 in Corsicana.
He was born Jan. 26, 1943 in Athens to the late Richard William and Hopsie Lee Rieves Nix. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Chapman Powerline Construction Company after 44 years of service. He was passionate about fishing and enjoyed teaching his nieces and nephews how to fish. John also loved to go hog hunting. He enjoyed gardening and taking his daily naps. John especially loved family gatherings.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; son, Ronald Nix; granddaughter, Shelby Nix; brothers, Billy Nix, Randy Nix; infant brother Jerry Nix; and a sister, Mary Jolliff.
Survivors include: his wife of six years, Denise Nix, Kerens; sons, Hootie Nix and wife Shelia, Brownsboro, Billy Allbright, Athens; stepson, Shaun Pederson, Minnesota; step-daughter, Kaylin Pederson, Kerens; brothers, Alvis Nix, Blossom,Joe Nix and wife Barbara, Florida, Gene Nix and wife Lillian, Groesbeck, Richard Nix and wife Wanda, Yanis, Lynn Nix and wife Darlene, Mabank; sisters, Dorothy Bass and husband Mike, Mabank, Sue Allen and husband Jimmy, Mexia; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
The family requests that no flowers be sent, but if you wish, a memorial may be made to a charity of your choice.
