Athens — Services for Donald Thurman Curry, 80, of LaRue, will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Watson and the Rev. Audrey Cooper officiating.

Burial will follow at New York Cemetery in New York, Texas under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Curry passed away May 4, 2013 under the care of Hospice of East Texas.  He was born Jan. 17, 1933 in Jacksonville to John Thurman and Martha Lillian Norris Curry. 

Donald graduated from Knott High School in Big Springs in 1950, and then from Howard Junior College in 1952.  He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Radio Mechanic.  Following his service in the Air Force, Donald moved to the family farm in Henderson County.  He married Addie Jo Little in 1958. 

In the early 1970s he received his Pilot’s license from Pounds Field in Tyler.  Dennis was self-employed, custom farming until 1975, after which he worked for Delta Foremost Chemical as a Sales Representative for 26 years, retiring in 2000.  Donald received the Top Salesman award many times during his career.  He served on the LaPoynor School District school board for nine years, and was a lifelong member of Leagueville Baptist Church.  Donald loved his family deeply.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, infant son John Earnest Curry and granddaughter Rachel Curry Hickman. 

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 55 years, Addie Jo Little Curry of LaRue; children, Joe Curry and wife Marsha of LaRue and Carl Curry of Henrietta; grandchildren, Jackson Curry and Katherine Curry both of Red Oak, David Giles of Palestine and Glenda Davis of Keachi, La.  He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.   

Pallbearers will be Wally Bishop, Charles Clayton, David Giles, Melvin Dungan, Tommy Little and Marcus “Chic” Hampton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Little, Coy Little, George Little, Darryl Adair, Larry Howeth and Allen Terrell.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
